About Dr. Purcell
Meet Dr. Andrea Purcell
Helping women reconnect with their bodies through natural medicine, hormone support, and root-cause healing.
My Story
I didn't become a naturopathic doctor because I had all the answers.
I became one because I spent years searching for them myself.
As a teenager, I struggled with acne, hormonal symptoms, painful cycles, and chronic health concerns that were often brushed aside or treated with medications that never addressed the deeper issue. I intuitively knew there had to be another way.
I became frustrated with a medical model that focused primarily on suppressing symptoms instead of asking why the body was struggling in the first place. That search for answers led me to nutrition, herbal medicine, and eventually Naturopathic Medicine.
The moment I discovered naturopathic medicine, everything clicked. I realized there was an entire philosophy of medicine built around supporting the body, identifying root causes, and helping people heal naturally.
In 1999, I moved to Arizona to attend naturopathic medical school and began the journey that would become my life's work. For over 20 years, I've dedicated my practice to helping women navigate hormonal imbalances, thyroid concerns, digestive issues, fatigue, perimenopause, menopause, and the many transitions that affect women's health throughout life.
Because I know what it feels like to want answers. And I know how life-changing it is when you finally find them.

My Approach
There is a deeper story beneath your symptoms.
I believe there is a place for conventional medicine, especially in emergency and acute care. But when it comes to chronic health concerns, women deserve more than symptom management alone.
My approach focuses on:
Finding the underlying cause of symptoms
Supporting the body naturally whenever possible
Using diet, lifestyle, nutrients, and hormone balance as foundational medicine
Looking at the whole person, not just lab values
Helping women feel empowered and informed about their health
So many women are told, “Everything looks normal,” while they continue to struggle with fatigue, brain fog, weight changes, insomnia, anxiety, painful periods, or hormonal shifts. I believe there is often a deeper story beneath those symptoms.
Natural medicine allows us to step back, connect the pieces, and support the body in a way that promotes long-term healing and vitality.
What I Believe
What I believe about your body.
I believe your body is intelligent. Symptoms are not random. They are often signals that something deeper needs attention.
I believe the body has an incredible ability to heal when given the proper support and environment.
I believe prevention matters.
I believe women should feel heard, educated, and involved in their healthcare decisions.
And I believe natural medicine should be considered a first resort — not a last resort.
You should not have to spend years feeling dismissed, exhausted, or disconnected from yourself before getting real answers.
This is your one great precious life. You deserve to feel vibrant, clear-minded, energetic, and fully alive in it.
Credentials & Experience
Two decades of clinical experience helping women heal.
Dr. Andrea Purcell is a licensed naturopathic doctor with more than two decades of clinical experience helping women restore balance, improve their health naturally, and navigate the hormonally intense years of midlife.
What makes this work deeply personal for Dr. Purcell is that she is in midlife herself. She understands firsthand the physical, emotional, and hormonal shifts women experience during this stage of life and believes women deserve to feel supported, educated, and empowered — not dismissed.
I'm not speaking to women from outside the experience. I'm walking through it alongside them.
Dr. Purcell is the founder of Portal to Healing Naturopathic Clinic, a full-scope naturopathic medical practice focused on women's health, hormones, thyroid health, digestion, metabolism, and preventative medicine.
She believes deeply in the naturopathic principle that the body is regenerative rather than simply degenerative.
Integrative natural medicine provides us with the pieces of the puzzle — whole body, environment, emotions, nutrition, hormones, and lifestyle — so we can create a roadmap toward healing and long-term well-being.
Before becoming a physician, Dr. Purcell worked as an Industrial Hygienist with the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) in New York, where she evaluated workplace environmental exposures and their impact on human health. Her background in environmental medicine continues to influence her whole-body approach to healing today.

From Her Readers
Praise for Feed Your Cells.
Now in all seriousness, your book inspired me to get back to very basic, simple meals and eliminate as many processed foods as possible, as well as reduce refined flours, sugars, and cut out dairy again since I have a sensitivity. We have been eating “clean” for 2 weeks. Mike has lost 6 lbs and my skin has cleared up. I have a ton of energy and feel great! Alexandria loved the swiss chard egg scramble too!
Outside the Office
The woman behind the white coat.
I'm in midlife myself, which is part of why this work matters to me so deeply — I'm not lecturing from outside the experience, I'm walking through it alongside my patients.
When I'm not in clinic, you'll find me taking daily walks under the canvas of a blue sky, camping, practicing yoga, working out, cooking, gardening, reading, spending time with my family, and running the occasional local 5K.
Our family has a mission statement that revolves around being active, healthy, supporting each other, and honoring God. We prioritize the things that matter to us the most.
I believe in practicing what I prescribe because I know it works. I sleep, I move, I eat real food, and I make time for the things that fill me up.
