Feeling Terrible? Get Your Thyroid Tested
Kick off the New Year with a Thyroid test.
January is Thyroid awareness month and now is a good time to see if yours is working properly. The thyroid is the master gland of the body and controls most body functions. This is incredibly important when it comes to energy, body temperature, proper circulation, weight control, healthy hair, proper digestion and literally dozens of other symptoms.
Unfortunately, conventional testing for thyroid is inaccurate and misunderstood. This leaves many patients undiagnosed and untreated with thyroid disease.
Conventional medicine would have us believe that the best way to diagnose whether or not a patient has too much or too little thyroid is by ordering a TSH test. If the TSH is elevated out of range, then the patient has hypothyroidism, contrarily, if it is too low, it indicates that the patient has hyperthyroidism. Recently the range for diagnosing hypothyroid was reduced because many patients with obvious thyroid symptoms were being sent home without treatment. Honestly, thyroid health cannot be gauged solely on one test. Relying solely on a TSH level to determine thyroid health is inadequate. There is a panel of tests to assess thyroid function and all are important. Additionally, the symptoms of the patient need to be taken into consideration. If a patient is within the reference range but has many symptoms of low thyroid they should be evaluated more thoroughly to assess proper thyroid function. Many people need the thyroid hormone, but don’t receive a prescription because the blood test is in the “reference range.” If this happens to you, you’re not alone, there are many other people who were told the same thing and are needlessly suffering.
Note From Dr. P:
In order to know if your thyroid is functioning properly, I encourage you to seek out a licensed Naturopathic doctor. I have been assisting my patients with thyroid health using more specific testing and assessments for years. Those who have needlessly suffered are now giving me a big hug of thanks for getting them energized, and helping them get the joy back in their life.
