How long does it take for COVID19 to disintegrate and become non-infectious?

This is a great question and one that experts are grappling with right this moment. The answer is not clear because it depends on a number of variables.

More information is being released daily as to whether this virus is transmitted in aerosol droplets. (It seems likely that it is)

We have known for some time that the medium that the virus lands on matters and different mediums have different disintegration times. The disintegration time can depend on the temperature, humidity and the type of material where it lands.

It is best to NOT shake out any clothing or items that could have droplets on them.

Here is a general guide to the length of time the virus can survive:

  • Clothing and fabric 3 hours
  • Copper and wood 4 hours
  • Cardboard 24 hours
  • Metal 42-72 hours
  • Plastic 72 hours

Please wash your hands, thoroughly and regularly. Practice NOT touching your face. We are practicing at our home and it is quite a challenge. Be aware of your personal hygiene as you go through the day.

All of this practice will set the stage for you and your family later this year when the quarantines are revoked.

Wishing you Well,
