Emerging research reveals simple ways to fine tune your daily habits to stay slim or drop pounds. It’s your choice.

1) Pre-load your day with water. Our bodies don’t know when we are hungry or thirsty, so the next time you feel like having something drink 8-16 oz of water. This is especially important when you are trying to lose weight. Drinking at least 8 oz of water before each meal while reducing portions works like a charm!

2) Binging on the weekends does nothing except confuse your body. Try to follow the 80/20 rule all week long. Make healthy choices 80% of the time so you can have what you want 20% of the time. This only works during the maintenance phase, if you want to lose weight you must follow your program 100%. Exercising daily encourages mindful eating so make exercise part of your schedule.

3) Some medications contribute to weight gain especially anti-depressants, birth control, and anti-histamines. Consider some natural alternatives in place of these or seek out an Integrated natural doctor who can help you.

4) Disturbed sleep in any form contributes to weight gain. Staying up later or getting up earlier violates the natural circadian rhythm. Chaotic schedules are harming our health as the research builds around lack of sleep, obesity, decreased blood sugar metabolism and diabetes. The bottom line is that sleep deprivation triggers appetite stimulating hormones and increases hunger and food intake; so the less sleep we have the more weight we gain.

Note from Dr. P: Lack of good quality sleep really wreaks havoc on our hormonal systems; it prematurely ages us, and makes us fat. The word restore has the word rest in it. We must rest in order to restore our bodies, allow them to repair, and have proper hormonal balance. Follow the sun. Up with the sunrise down with the sun set.

Drink water, exercise, choose your food wisely, get used to feeling good because we all should. Live, Laugh, Love & Have Fun!
